Nothing new here!

I hesitated buying this because I have several books promoting the raw food lifestyle already now I wish I hadn't spent the money. It is overpriced. There is no new info here. He is energetically motivational and may be good for people just starting into raw foods. Most of the info is found for free on the internet already. I guess if the price were lower it may be worth it. Just not worth the money.

Shocking advice

What do you get when you mix pseudo science with hippie propaganda? Heal Yourself 101. Overall I like the book. I've read other nutrition books like "Navy Seal Nutrition" and "The Abs Diet" and "The Harvard Guide to Nutrition" but none were nearly as controversial as this. I'm glad I bought it and I think even the most avid dieter or researcher will learn something. A lot of the claims I would take with a grain of salt. He tells you to always eat raw food because cooking kills nutrients, humans are herbivores and get a colonic. The controversy arrives when he recommends we eat grass like a cow, clean our butts with garlic to kill parasites and eat weeds growing in sidewalk cracks. Is it worth $30? No, I don't believe so. But definitely $15-$20. Some paragraphs have a lack of focus and it will frustrate the reader that just wants facts and advice without fluff. Papaya was recommended to me on three different pages so the repetition and editing could use some work. I think the author is a spiritual man and eccentric character that warrants some interest. I also think people will be googling a lot of advice in this book just to see if he is a revolutionary or a nut job. Buy this book if you don't care about $30 and none of the conventional diet or nutrition standards are working for you.

Update, a year later I raise my review from 3 to 4 stars. Primarily because I've heard a few "insane" claims corroborated by medical and or nutrition experts. Also check out Markus Rothkranz on youtube. He has a few recipe videos I literally use every week.

Interesting Book

I've read alot of books on nutrition & natural healing. This book isn't my favorite, but I did find it interesting, picked up on some new ideas and read some information i already new. It is also vague in some topics and over emphasizes some others. Explaining something once is enough for me. I do feel Markus is very inspirational and will help keep some people motivated in regards to healthy living. It's obviously working for him. I ordered the book after watching some of his videos. There are parts of the book that speak opposite of what i've heard other natural healing people speak of(Dr. Andrew Weil in regards to soy)and i've been following Dr. Weil for close to two decades now. That's working very well for me. The reason i share that information is because, some of the changes/advice recommended in this book are a wee too radical & drastic for me. I recommend searching for Markus' free videos(there's many) and decide for yourself before purchasing.

About the Author
George Annandale, a humanist, engineer and author, was born in South Africa; one of the most drought-stricken countries on earth. Great Book - A must read for anyone who uses water

In the book George succintly describes how a combination of three events - global population growth, shrinking water storage due to reservoir sedimentation and a dramatic decline in the construction of new dams is resulting in an alarming decrease in water availability. The book reviews the potential effects of climate change, discusses the challenges with conservation, the concept of sustainable development and provides solutions. Best of all in this age of misinformation George bases his conclusions on facts - not opinions. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to understand where their water comes from and more importantly what needs to be done to keep it coming.

This is a book on an engineer's perspective on water supply planning and policy on a global scale. Dr. Annandale makes a compelling case for technical solutions to global water supply problems in terms of sustainability, climate variability, and market factors. The concepts described are based on sound scientific and engineering principles and aimed at the most critical parts of the earth that are becoming over-populated despite declining adequate water supplies. The book includes enough technical content and references included to satisfy the scientists and engineers, but it's written to make it a good read for non-technical people who want to understand water supply problems and possible solutions.

This was the first book I read from C&P given freely to me years ago prior to a summer bus ride and I consider it to be one of the best gifts I have ever received. It was a ride of suspense like no other I have read. Believe me when I say the ride only continued in later books. Oh! Did I not impart that I absolutely loved this novel and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Well done.

A great summer read.

Preston and Child score a solid 4.5 with Riptide. Pirates, buried treasure, greed and action, it just doesn't get any better than that. Interesting locale peopled with great characters, the unpredictable weather of the northern Maine coast, and the mysteries of architecture combine to make a classic summary read.

Just a really great story to!d by a couple of very talented authors.

Crimson Tide

Preston and Child continue to impress. Although not on par with "Relic" or "Reliquary" (there's no Special Agent Pendergast to be found in "Riptide" after all) it still makes any other book of it's genre pale in it's shadow. These guys are good, very good; and they've yet to write a book that hasn't captured and held my interest throughout.

"Riptide" has something for everyone. Pirates (who doesn't love a good Pirate story, huh?), burried treasure, Hi-Tech Science, romance, greed, avarice, mystery, quaint New England culture, a dark and brooding man of the cloth, but most of all, action. PLENTY of action!

I wouldn't suggest this being your first Preston and Child read. I think it's best to read them in the order that they've been written but if this should happen to be your first, you will not be disappointed.

I can find only one thing wrong after reading this book. You won't be able to find many writers of their caliber and will be bored by most other books until the NEXT Preston/Child collaberation appears on the bookshelves. You've been warned!

About the Author
Judith A. Sugar, PhD, is Associate Professor, School of Community Health Sciences, University of Nevada, Reno. She is a nationally recognized teacher and scholar in gerontology, and has served in leadership roles in prominent professional gerontological organizations, including AGHE, GSA, and APA's Division of Adult Development and Aging. She has chaired the Gerontology program at Colorado State University, and was associate director of the Borun Center for Gerontological Research at UCLA, and the director of Graham and Jean Sanford Center for Aging at the University of Nevada. Dr. Sugar was appointed to the Nevada State Commission on Aging, and chosen as a facilitator for the 1995 White House Conference on Aging. She has been honored with numerous awards including Fellow of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education, Woman of Achievement by the University of Nevada, and the inaugural award for Distinguished Faculty Scholar by the Sanford Center for Aging. Dr. Sugar has published widely in the fields of psychology, gerontology, and education. ||Robert J. Riekse, EdD, is the founder of the Older Learner Center at Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC) and the Calvin College-Grand Rapids Community College Consortium on Aging. Currently, he is the principal researcher of the GRCC Older Learner Center. A pioneer in aging education, he has developed a wide range of gerontology programs for college students, service providers in the aging network, and older persons and their family members. He was awarded a fellowship in the American Council on Education's Academic Leadership Program, and is a recipient of the Everett J. Soop Distinguished Adult Education Award. He has authored, co-authored, and directed numerous research grants and is a frequent presenter and committee member for the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education. He is currently developing gerontology-based television productions across Michigan, and his award-winning videos have been distributed to colleges and universities across the nation. |Henry Holstege, PhD, is Professor Emeritus of Sociology/Gerontology at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is a recipient of the Everett J. Soop Distinguished Adult Educator Award, co-author of the book Caring for Aging Loved Ones, and the author and co-author of numerous monographs on aging. Not for the serious student

If you are serious in your exploration of Islam, this book will not be very useful. Although the idea of giving an explanation of the religious symbols found in islamic art and other religious manifestations is quite good, the author has not bothered to state such basic things as her sources or even a simple bibliography. Of course, there are no notes either. It is impossible to go on reading from here, and you will never learn from where did the author gather her knowledge. There is another important flaw: the strong bias in favour of Islam sometimes is so apologetic as to read as a justification, and I really don't think the religion of Islam has anything to apologize for (although I cannot say the same of some muslims), so I find this quite unnecessary and cumbersome.

In spite of all this, my review is a three stars because the book does, at least, give the names and description of many important artistic symbols, and it also gives the popular or folk (I think this is so, since the sources are not quoted) meanings attached to them.

This is a wonderful book that talks about all of the wonderful benefits that we have because of the finished work of JESUS CHRIST! It tells about all that he has done for us because of the Cross. It reminds us that everything that we have, each breath that we take is because of Jesus and reminds us not to take these wonderful things for granted. The Kenneth Hagin ministry is truly a blessing to those who dont know Jesus as well as those who have a relationship with the Savior. It encourages them to draw closer to the One who has done so much for us
