Transforming knowledge

What powerful and profound content. If you have the courage to be open minded to genuine truth, rather than just being spoon fed from the pew, this book will change your life and give meaning to the gospel like never before. The Lord is both our brother in the flesh forever (fully human) and our eternal life and righteousness by the gift of His own divine Spirit (fully divine). Satan's done his best to hide this truth from us and the whole Christian world. We can know Him who is the Truth or we can be told what to believe by systems of religion, it's up to us individually (free will).

WARNING: The author denies the Trinity!

I cannot recommend this book because Mr. Bivens denied the Trinity. The Trinity is one of the most foundational truths of the Christian faith. This book will not clear up what he called the "propaganda floating around the Church concerning the Trinity." He simply adds additional false teaching to a cultic worldview. Unfortunately, Bruce died in 2013 before being able to correct the errors contained in this book.

Bridges by Kyell Gold

After exactly three historical/fantasy and three contemporary furry romances, I can say for sure that my favourites are the contemporaries. Kyell Gold is an awesome writer in both genres, but maybe the fact that the contemporary stories are less far from mine perspective, allow me to not get lost in an anthropomorphic universe that is already a fantasy for me.

The main difference between this last one, Bridges, and the previous two, Waterways and Out of Position, is that this is apparently a lighter story, sexier, and more free: there is not the prejudice against homosexuality that was basically the pushing element of the other books, and here the main aspect is the play of perspective. A game that is in full swing in the first three chapters, the same story is seen through the eyes of the three main characters. Same scenes, same dialogues, and same output: the different perspective of who is telling it gives a different meaning to the whole. Chapter 4 and 5 are again told from two different characters, and different from the previous three, but they are subsequent, one after the other in time lapse.

Amir is a sweet and young fennec new in town and with a penchant for foxes; Amir has not trouble to find one night stands, but he is tired of senseless stories and so he thought that hanging around a bookstore is the right place to find a boyfriend. Only that Amir is really shy, and even if he has set his eyes on an handsome red fox, Hayward, he has not the courage to do the first move. The story from Amir's point of view is sweet and tender, and the sex is almost awkward, good but missing of something.

Fin is a swift fox, another friend of Hayward, the red fox. When Hayward introduces him to Amir, the reader has the feeling that Fin is a bit aloof, maybe even jealous of Amir; at first I thought they were in competition for Hayward. The story from Fin's point of view is a bit more detached, maybe with a sad undertone. Only at the end of Fin's chapter the reader understands that also Fin is missing something, and like Amir he would like a long term relationship, something quite and nice.

Hayward, the red fox, at first comes out like a party boy, someone always flying from flower to flower, picking from everyone but never setting with anyone. At first his story is very light, almost naughty. There is yes something of hidden, a deep layer that very few can see. As Kinzi will say, Hayward is the bridge between different characters, he helps people to connect, everyone walks upon him, but no one is really interested in him. No one would notice him missing if not in case he crashes down. And like a bridge between the two sides of the book, Hayward's chapter is in the middle.

Carmila is Hayward's sister; she is forced on a wheelchair and depends a lot from Hayward. Apparently she is the reason why Hayward doesn't want to commit to anyone, but in reality she is Hayward's excuse, who he uses with himself to prove that he can't have a normal relationship. Carmila's character could have been really angst, and instead, instilling in her a bit of selfishness, the author managed to do of her someone ordinary, with ordinary needs.

Last there is Kinzi, a 40 years old coyote; he is the only one who Hayward was not able to match with someone, probably since Kinzi has already found who he wants. He understood that, to win Hayward over, he has not to pressuring him; Hayward needs time to understand things alone. Kinzi is also maybe the one who needs Hayward the less, it's not Hayward that is helping Kinzi, like it's not Kinzi who is helping Hayward... they are both at the same time in life when decisions need to be taken, maybe like Carmila, being a bit selfish.

Each chapter is like a little story alone, but all five together make a very good novel: romantic and sweet, with a right balance between sexy and angst.

Kyell Gold does not dissapoint

If you are curious about this author then I recommend this book to get a "taste" of his writting style. The characters are likable and the storyline is good. Romantic. Just wish it had been longer.
Update: I just got the kindle version it has a bonus story.

Outstanding read

I almost cant put into words the feelings I got from this book, I mean wow! Once I started I couldnt put it down. The only drawback was it wasnt long enough. You cant help but love Hayward and Kinzi,all of them in fact.Im so glad that Kinzi followed his heart and took the first step and they got together.Yeah ok so it did make me tear up ( there I said it)but at the end you sit there and cant help but smile and think thats alright. You can feel Haywards loneliness and pain hes going though and you want to just jump into the book and help him, thank god Kinzi did to help him get over his loss and help him learn to love again. This was a great read and will be reading it again.I loved everyone in it. I just started reading furry stories not long ago and I only wish I started along time ago now knowing that there were stories like this out there and this one really touched my heart.I fully support this book and anyone who it thinking about getting this one, well all I can say is you wont go wrong! Thanks Kyell! and well done.

Great book

I was introduced to Ohara about two months ago. Have read three novels. I am about 40% through the short stories. Many of the stories have a similar theme but they are still great stories. Ohara is one talented writer.

I have always loved John O'Hara, and these stories are great. I read at least one of them every night before I go to bed. I would put him up there with F. Scott Fitzgerald, maybe with Hemingway.

In The Beauty of the Husband, subtitled A Fictional Essay in 29 Tangos, she explores her ambiguous feelings toward a difficult but intriguing marriage. After the Canadian classicist, polymath and MacArthur "genius grant" winner's much-acclaimed verse-novel Autobiography of Red (1997)Aand exactly a year after Men in the Off HoursAcomes a second book-length, mostly-narrative poem: this charming, edgy, insistently intertextual and finally heartbreaking sequence about unlikely courtship, modern marriage, divorce and "primordial eros and strife." The 29 short chapters Carson calls "Tangos" imagine and analyze, in jaggedly memorable verse, the ill-starred romance between the narrator and her charismatic, needy and unfaithful husband, who writes her romantic letters in her teenage years, introduces her to his tragic friend Ray, cheats on her with women named Merced and Dolor, takes her on a tour of the Peloponnese and begs her to reverse her decision to leave him. The plot emerges through Carson's meditative, elusive fragments, mysteriously isolated couplets, excerpts from versified conversations and letters, interior monologues and (as Carson's readers have come to expect) digressions on matters of classical scholarship. This kind of thing is imitated badly and often by others, but Carson's phraseology within poems remains her own: "Rotate the husband and expose a hidden side," she urges early on; later, "words// are a strange docile wheat are they not, they bend/ to the ground." And if some of Carson's devotees seek just such cryptic moments, others will want, and get, more direct shows of emotion: "Proust/ used to weep over days gone by," she asks the reader, "do you?" Love Hurts

Anne Carson has written a beautiful book of poems/tangoes that somehow tell the story of a marriage without actually telling a story. We have fully realized moments, conversations (Carson writes amazing poetic conversations, here and in her other works), events -- without all the connections in between. And yet these moments are woven together, internally and from one tango to the next, with language used as the steps of a dance, providing motifs and figures that carry the reader from one page to the next. Dance, games, rules, war, the rules of war, love, beauty, truth, lies and betrayal -- all of these themes run in and out of the complicated pattern of steps. The technique always serves the lyric, however, and we never lose sight of the feelings Carson wishes to evoke. You feel the separate pains of each betrayal (her betrayal of her mother, the not-yet-husband's failure to appear for their wedding, his first infidelity, each subsequent lie), but despite the pain there is no bitterness in this book -- in fact, Carson's final advice is to "hold beauty." Just as you cannot tell the tale of the lover without telling the tale of the beloved (as the final poem ironically suggests), so, perhaps, you cannot have love, beauty and truth without their opposites. Carson, plainly, is on the side of beauty.

beautiful and shocking. a piece for any reader. the essential beauty and shocking nature of the human is wonderfully conveyed in this piece. i participate in competitive forensics and placed 9th in the state with this piece, in my first year. the piece has so many levels that it can be understood and throughly enjoyed by the least literate, least educated and those with doctorate degrees in literature. while it may not have the same spirit as many of carson's other works, it has a beauty of its own as it creates a very complex comprehensive story of a husband and betrayed wife, with wonderful words in the 28th tango. remember "hold, hold beauty."
those who are still trapped in carson's other works remember to allow the writer grow too, don't confine her to what you think she should be doing. remain open to changes in carson... she has not yet reached her prime.

About the Author

About the authors:
Rainer Metzger studied art history, history and German studies in Munich and Augsburg. He received his doctorate in 1994, and has worked as a fine arts journalist for the Viennese newspaper Der Standard. He has written numerous books on art, including volumes on van Gogh and Chagall.

Ingo F. Walther (1940-2007) was born in Berlin and studied medieval studies, literature, and art history in Frankfurt am Main and Munich. He has published numerous books on the art of the Middle Ages and of the 19th and 20th centuries. Walther's many titles for TASCHEN include Picasso, Art of the 20th Century, and Codices Illustres

A Must Have for all Van Gogh Fans out there!

First off, I must point out that I did not read the English version of this, but the French one; since it's a translation, it should basically be the same.

Taschen has the nice habit of making great books for comparatively very cheap prices; and that is once again the case with this collection of all Van Gogh paintings. The paper is top quality (glazed is it? I forget how it's called, but it's the same as you find in every other taschen publication) and the size of the book ensures a good view on the paintings.

I had read 2 books relating Vincent's life, so when it came to read another text on him and his work, I already knew most of of the bulk of that artist's life; however, this wasn't redundant at all. The authors have interesting things to say and usually do so in ways that won't kill you with boredom (even if I sometimes don't agree with the theories proposed). Substantial citations from Van Gogh's letters are used there, which is good, since Vincent wrote a lot. The book does a good work of setting Vincent Van Gogh in context, letting us know what authors he read, and what kind of human being he was. And Vincent was a particularly wonderful human being in my opinion, something this book does not fail to show.

Now as to the pictures of the paintings, what can I say? If you like Van Gogh's art, you'll like them. And even though you may not like everything he's ever done, it's worthwhile to have the whole thing to see the evolution of his art from a very dark and gloomy universe to a violently colourful one.

I definitely recommend this book for everyone interested in knowing more about Van Gogh than the basics. The book is a beautiful object as well, pretty heavy, but very classy.

My favorite painter is presented in this book as a mysterious man he used to be. You will get the best explanations of his work, every painting description and the story about its creation. Love Van Gogh and i was very pleased with this book.

A VERY NICE SET...

All things considered, this is a very nice set: two volumes, in a nice box, printed in Italy, featuring virtually all Van Gogh's paintings in color.

The reproductions are not glossy, but the photography is so clear that one can see the paint textures and even the canvas under the paint. Someone has noted that the colors are somewhat "off," but we must hasten to add that one wouldn't know it at all unless there were another color reproduction with which to compare. So, all in all, the reproductions are quite good. The monochrome photos represent paintings destroyed in WW2, or those which were denyied full color reproduction by the owners.

Can hardly go wrong with this set.

Brilliant Book despite lacking cranial bones.

This is an excellent book. Despite a complete lack of cranial bones. It does cover them in writing with a small section of horn vs antlers and a few illustrations of cranial sutures. Some very nice descriptions about the bones that compare and contrast features that make it easy to understand differences to make identification. Each bone is described and contrasted by overall size and proportions, Shaft sections, proximal and distal ends. Tubercles, condyles, articulations. Makes ID very easy. Lots of dentition! Boneheads unite! ;-)

Illustrated manual for British and European Zooarchaeology

This is a nicely designed book aimed at supporting lab work in zooarchaeology. The body of the book is illustrations of skeletal elements and articular surfaces of major European domesticates and several wild mammal species (deer and bear). The illustrations of teeth match the ones found in Teeth by the same author. It is best suited for Britain but the author suggests ways that it could be adapted for use in North America. Despite title "Guide to methods" there is very little text or methodological guidance (about understanding characters and variation, sampling, taphonomy, recording, interpretation). I recommend it for students (who must also have access to a comparative collection) based on its clear illustration, helpful labels, and lay-flat binding.
