About the Author
Benjamin Esty is a Professor of Business Administration in the Finance Group at Harvard Business School. He received his PhD. in Business Economics from Harvard University; his MBA from Harvard Business School; and a B.A. degree in Economics from Stanford University.

As a researcher, professor Esty has published numerous articles in both academic and practitioner-oriented journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Applied Corporate Finance, and the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. In addition, he has written more than 70 case studies, technical notes, and teaching notes on project finance, emerging market investments, and valuation mechanics. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Structured and Project Finance and regularly advises investment banks, development institutions, government agencies, and project sponsors on a broad range of investment, financing, and valuation issues.

Absolutely useless for self-study

This book is simply a collection of HBS case studies: nothing more, nothing less. For those who are not familiar with Top 20 MBA case study format (I graduated from Top 20 MBA school as recently as 2006), here is how it works:

"Company X wants to achieve Y result. Here is the data on Company X. Here is why they want to achieve the Y result. Here are some additional factors that affect the Company's decision-making process.

The Company X has options A, B, and C to get to Y. Which one of these options the Company X do you think should choose?" This is where the case ends - the correct answer is not disclosed - it is assumed one would discuss this case further in a classroom setting.

Therefore, unless one is discussing in great details the case with a professor or project finance professional, you won't know the answer / learn how to arrive at solution (read: model) yourself.

Therefore, this book is absolutely USELESS for self-study - i.e. for someone who wants to learn more about the field of project finance. Consider yourself forewarned!

Predictable

While I never expect great literature in one of these books I do expect something more than a continual replay using one set of hackneyed phrases in every story. This could have easily been entirely computer generated. If another tongue tasted "faintly of mint" I thought I would vomit. The seasonal thread of the stories was novel and the author avoided making that depressing.

Some Very "Hot" Stories!

I haven't read much erotica but this one ranks among the best! Sean Wolfe has done a wonderful job in conveying these stories to us. Unlike most erotica that I have read, these stories all have a story line. I love the way the stories are broken into seasonal sections and how Wolfe connects our sexuality and eroticism to the changing of the seasons. Surprisingly, the stories that I found most interesting are the ones with the older characters (probably because I'm pushing 60 myself). Additionally, the book contained a novella "A Life Much More Than Ordinary" which was extremely well written and also had everything you would expect a piece of erotica to have. Thanks Mr. Wolfe for a fast-paced well written compilation. At some point I am going to have to get a hold of "Close Contact" (his first installment).

Being Aroused and Getting Randy in All of the Seasons of a Gay Man's Life

This collection of stories attempts to depict the stages of gay men's sexual lives, depicting the trajectory of youth to old age as an extended conceit of short narratives related to the similarity thereto of Nature's progress through the seasons of the year, from Spring to Winter. Each season has four or five short stories apiece, with a short introductory introduction and quoted definitions for each group of tales, and there is also an intervening novella that traces a particular gay man's life and loves through the "seasons" of his own life, from youth to old age.

The idea is a good one, but Sean Wolfe's realisation of his literary project gives variable results. The narratives of middle age (to varying degree) and of old age (to more uniformly fizzling than sizzling effect) are (not unexpectably) less gripping and erotically "aroused" and arousing than those of youth and early manhood (spring and summer of life, as Wolfe conceives them). Wolfe's "politically correct takes" on gay "marriages" or "civil unions" becomes obsessive and, well, downright smary (and not a little "gay-lib"-propaganda-driven) rather than fulfilling or exciting to the reader; there must be more to such gay sexual living than the twee bourgeois sentimentality that Wolfe conjures, putting aside the appropriateness or lack of it to comparing gay partnerships with heterosexual marriage. The same applies to his depiction of sexuality in old age, which is too sentimentalised to be effective; this reviewer knows from his own experience, quite apart from whether it was appropriate and moral or not utterly so (e.g. from such experiences as a most exceptionally randy and satisfying, night-long "romp in the sack" in Boston, making very physical love in vigourous mid-twenties with a man in his ruggedly responsive eigties) that there is more to inter-generational sex and its dynamics than Wolfe seems able to imagine with any vividness, that author being too exclusively concerned with the fraity and sagging sexual drive and performance of advancing years.

At his best, Wolfe writes some very hot, explicit, and vivifying prose narratives, the kind of thing that generates the kind of sexual and emotional heat so evident, visually, in the impassioned, horny depiction of two young men locked bodily together and deep-kissing that the photographic image reproduced on the front and back covers of this book's quality paperback edition, which Amazon's entry for it reproduces, so enticingly conveys. One weakness in all of these tales and in all of the "seasonal" sections of the book is the stilted, clich�-infested dialogue that occurs within the tales; Wolfe is better at narrating actions than in conveying what these men speak to one another in bed or otherwise. Some common, but irksome grammatical defects slightly mar the effect of Wolfe's writing; writing in good, normative syntax by no means lessens the impact that prose can project. Wolfe's fiction certainly falls short of the level of imagination and evocation, sexual and other, of a writer like the Australian, Rusty Winter.

Probably a series of stories without the straight-jacket, at least for Wolfe himself, of such a confining concept (seasonality and stages of life) that Wolfe employs in this particular book would allow Wolfe to exercise his considerable powers of sexual depiction and interpersonal, erotic narrative much more effectively. As the book is, however, there are enough powerfully conjured sexual and psyho-sexual moods and actions to make it worthwhile to acquire this book and to read it, selectively and a bit of the book at a time.

Good book!

This book is well organized and concisely written. Each chapter stands on its own and can be read independently, which fits my style and allows for reading it as time permits. The chapters each contain some theory or explanation as well as copious amounts of code and real world examples. The use cases were also helpful in understanding situations where the design patterns could be implemented.

I purchased the eBook version which had links embedded in the text for additional detail and in-depth explanations on related topics. I like to explore as I read and learn, so this was a welcome feature.

The only con for me was that it's written for Python 3, however, the concepts apply to Python 2 and other languages. Eventually I will move to Python 3 and this was a gave me a chance to try Python 3.

I recommend if you want to learn about design patterns and you're a Python user.

New ideas to refactor and optimize your code

If you need to find new ideas on how to optimize or make your code more easy to interpret this book will give you several examples of code structures to make it more efficient or more simple to interpret. The book writing style is a bit dry and it's not for beginners(you need to know what python is about and how to code with it or you will get lost) but the core content is sound so if you know your stuff and you want to learn new coding styles this book is for you.

Amazing and dissappointing.

This really is a great easy short read. I highly recommend it if you are interested in a primary first hand account of being in the trenches of WWI. The author was a quite a hero in WWII. I will say it's amazingly disappointing as it ends terribly abruptly when he becomes ill so I didn't get as much as I wanted but that doesn't take away from whats there. There is no post war commentary or anything from that author as this was published long after he was killed by the Gestapo.

About the Author

Maceo Montoya is an assistant professor in the Chicana/o studies department at UC Davis and an affiliated faculty member of Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer (TANA), a community-based art center in Woodland, California.

Brilliant Must-Read

What a fantastic premise for a novel, and what a mature piece of work this tragicomedy is. I can see this work becoming a classic text in schools and colleges throughout the Americas.

Read it for the pleasure of getting to know the painstakingly well-developed main character (Whopper) and his intriguing female counterpart (Mija). Watching Whopper come of age and hearing the voices of those close to him is surprisingly pleasurable. The funniest part of the novel is following Whopper at the height of his powers as the Licenciado, the municipal representative, of a tiny rancho in Michoacan. The most unresolved part is the novel's engagement with female sexuality in the rancho. And the author doesn't hesitate to ask powerful questions about the quality of the dreams available to the children of immigrants. These philosophical questions are effectively woven into the novel's confident, satisfying, and commanding story-telling.

Important fiction...

Mr. Montoya's second novel offers a glimpse of the transformative in life--in spite of our efforts to fight it off. Descriptively rich yet interactively minimalist, it is what isn't said that drives this bittersweet tale. Like pieces of marble being chipped away from a shapeless slab, our protagonist, equally shapeless and inert, develops a character etched by the reality of experience and time. That we are more willing and able to understand him is a good thing, the stuff of serious and enduring fiction, and I'm guessing what Mr. Montoya is about. Anybody giving this book a serious read will not only appreciate its craft, but will be a little changed by it as well.

I liked "The Deportation of Wopper Barraza" by Maceo Montoya because I can relate to the immigration mentioned in the novel since I am Latina myself. The novel depicted realistic conflicts that can actually happen to anyone, and it shows the struggles that any Latino can go through. I was left with suspense at the end of every chapter, and I loved how the novel is narrated by all the different characters. I hope to read a novel like this again because I get to relate and imagine what I would do if I was in that situation

I really hated this book when I first started reading it

I really hated this book when I first started reading it. I instantly thought it was going to be like one of those hibbeler books that is published by Pearson. Instead, the book gave plenty of examples, plenty of theory, and gave me information I could actually apply after reading the information one time. The book goes in depth so if you read it, you will be much more likely to understand it compared to other text books. The author even goes out of his way to summarize each chapter and outlines problem solving strategies for many chapters. I am not sure if its just luck, but every Wiley published book I read is phenomenal

difficult to read with kindle desktop as you can only see one page at once. Wish they would change this because pdf versions would have allowed for that. Otherwise it is exactly the same as the copy in McMaster campus store in the winter of 2017

About the Author
Dr Thomas J. Lawton is founder and director of Seattle Breast Pathology Consultants. He spent over a decade in academia specializing in breast pathology on the medical school faculties of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Washington. He is author of over 30 journal articles and book chapters and was a co-director of a course on breast pathology at the 2009 United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology annual meeting.
