About the Author
William A. McEachern began teaching large sections of economic principles shortly after joining the University of Connecticut, and a several years later he began offering teaching workshops around the country. The University of Connecticut Alumni Association conferred on him its Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award in 2000. He earlier won the Association's award for Distinguished Public Service. Professor McEachern has published books and monographs on public finance, public policy, and industrial organization. His research has also appeared in edited volumes, such as READINGS IN PUBLIC CHOICE ECONOMICS (University of Michigan Press), INTERNATIONAL HANDBOOK ON TEACHING AND LEARNING ECONOMICS (Edward Elgar Publishing), and RETHINKING ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES (Irwin Publishing), and in a variety of refereed journals, including ECONOMIC INQUIRY, NATIONAL TAX JOURNAL, QUARTERLY REVIEW OF ECONOMIC AND BUSINESS, JOURNAL OF INDUSTRIAL ECONOMICS, KYKLOS, ECON JOURNAL WATCH, and PUBLIC CHOICE. He is the founding editor of THE TEACHING ECONOMIST, a newsletter that for more than two decades has focused on teaching economics at the college level. Professor McEachern has advised federal, state, and local governments on policy matters, and has been quoted in media such as the NEW YORK TIMES, TIMES OF LONDON, WALL STREET JOURNAL, CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR, USA TODAY, and READER'S DIGEST. He was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, earned an undergraduate degree with honors from College of the Holy Cross, served three years as a U.S. Army officer, and earned an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.

excellent textbook - won't buy it from amazon again

This is a text book that had to have. I do like the format, the review pages, and the low cost. However, I won't buy a textbook from Amazon again. It took almost three full weeks to get it on the FREE super saver (5-8 days shipping). They don't tell you that they don't have the book and it may take another 5-8 days before they get it so they can ship it to you. I lamost flunked out of the class waiting for the book.

I received the book right on time. It was packaged fairly decently. The book itself is readable. The chapters get right to the point. It's written in plain English with no hard to understand terms and definitions. The pull out cards are a great reference tool and sum up the chapters nicely. Five stars!

Good text

This textbook is good for learning microeconomics on your own. I used it for an Internet class, and I did fine. The textbook is not complicated, but I am a mechanical engineering student, so it could be my experience with math and physics texts that affects this. My class only covered to chapter 17, so I can't write about the rest of the chapters; they are probably good as well.
This book provides an introduction to economics, an intro. to the market system, it covers the market structure and pricing (monopolies, perfect competition, etc.), resource markets, market failure and public policy, and international microeconomics.
The book also comes with note cards for each chapter. New textbooks (or used if the access code was not used I think) also provide Internet extras like quizzes and videos.
The one thing I did not like was the many and sometimes too large pictures. It seemed as a way to keep your attention on the book, but students reading this material should be mature enough to not require such things. It reminded me of a high school or middle school textbook; not the material, but the pictures.
But as I said, this is a good text.
